KUCHING: Sarawak State Library will, once again, be holding the “Let’s Read Together For 10 Minutes 2018” programme today at its Gallery.
The programme is being held nationwide for the fifth time this year. First organised in 2014 at the initiative of the Council of Directors of Malaysian State Public Libraries, it is a step towards improving the awareness of the community on the importance of reading.
In 2017, a similar programme was held with the cooperation and participation of all members of the Council of Directors of Malaysian State Public Libraries, Ministry of Education, State Education Department, the National Library of Malaysia, State Secretary’s Office, Federal Secretary’s Office, departments, government and non-government agencies, schools, universities, private sector, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and members of the public. In 2017, 154,344 people in Sarawak participated in the programme.
Today, all state public libraries will once again hold the “Let’s Read Together for 10 Minutes 2018” programme simultaneously from 11.00am until 11.10am.
Today, all participants, regardless of the work or activity that they are doing, will pause and read for 10 minutes simultaneously.
In conjunction with the programme, there will be a sharing session and career programme, launching of an e-Journal and the presentation of the Active Readers Appreciation Award 2017.
To show support for the programme, members of the public are encouraged to send their picture(s) or photo (s) of themselves reading by posting to their Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #jombacaswk2018.
