Glamour in Glare
A pair of sunglasses may be what we need to complete our fashion look for this Hari Raya or for any other occasion to keep us undeniably cool and chic. There are plenty of choices these days for the perfect pair of ‘sunnies’.
TAS by Tom Abang Saufi, a name synonymous with the elegant fusion of contemporary fashion and Malaysian cultural heritage, recently launched its first-ever sunglasses collection.
This collection introduces 10 unique styles and colours, each embodying a timeless aesthetic with a modern twist. These pieces are destined to become essential accessories for the fashion-forward and culturally proud.
At the TAS Raya Fashion Show held in Kuala Lumpur, models paraded its latest collection, complementing their outfits with TAS’ new sunglasses to showcase how a pair can enhance the complete look for the coming festive season.
Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, each pair of sunglasses features striking frames adorned with the brand’s iconic Sarawak Pua Kumbu-inspired golden logo on the temples.
This luxurious and traditional touch sets the collection apart, offering a unique blend of style and cultural homage. The sunglasses’ lenses are not only stylish but also provide essential UVA/UVB protection, ensuring both fashion and function. The frames and lenses are made of polycarbonate, and a moulded nose pad is added for comfort.
The sunglasses collection comes with special packaging that reflects Tom Abang Saufi’s commitment to heritage and craftsmanship.
Each pair is presented in a Tom Abang Saufi-branded, Pua Kumbu-embossed triangle casing, accompanied by a microfibre pouch with a Pua Kumbu motif, reflecting the brand’s dedication to quality and heritage. This packaging not only protects the sunglasses but also serves as a nod to the rich Malaysian cultural heritage.
“Sunglasses have always been a signature accessory of mine at fashion events, yet I had never ventured into creating my own collection — until now. I am thrilled to introduce the TAS sunglasses collection, featuring timeless styles and shapes adorned with our iconic Pua Logo. Our uniquely Malaysian packaging adds a special touch to each pair. With Hari Raya around the corner and the sun shining bright, there’s no better time to embrace these must-have accessories,” said the visionary behind the brand, Dato’ Tom Abang Saufi.
Tom, who hails from Sarawak in the Eastern region of Malaysia that is part of Borneo Island, has been a leading force in the Malaysian fashion industry for over 30 years.
When in Kuching, she was already a fashionista during her days at St Mary’s School before flying to destinations like Paris and elsewhere. Eventually, she became the international designer she is today.
