KUCHING: The restrictions on economic activities which were lifted by the federal government under Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) will allow businesses to recover.

Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar hoped that the public will continue to observe the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to stem the spread of Covid-19.

“The government today announced a relaxation for the economic sectors for individuals who have received two doses of vaccination for the states that are in Phases 1 and 2 starting Aug 16.

“I would like to remind traders to ensure that customers who enter their business premises practise the SOPs and customers also must show the Covid-19 digital vaccination certificate.

“I would like to remind everyone to always wear face masks, practise physical distancing and always maintain cleanliness so that we can continue to control the spread of this pandemic,” he said in a Facebook post on Sunday (Aug 15).

Wan Junaidi said the relaxation given was due to positive development from the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NCIP) for several states.

“With more than 40 percent of the nation’s adult population receiving two doses of the Covid-19 vaccines, we have seen a decrease in the number of Category 3, 4 and 5 cases,” he said.

Earlier Sunday, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced a host of relaxations for Phase 1 and Phase 2 of NRP for fully vaccinated individuals.

For Phase 1, 11 businesses that were allowed to operate are barbers and hair salons for basic haircuts only, car wash shops, electrical shops, shops selling household appliances and kitchen supplies, furniture shops, and sports equipment shops.

Meanwhile for Phase 2, the other eleven businesses are photography and photo services shops, second-hand item shops, flower shops and plant nurseries, handicraft and souvenir shops and antique shops.

The others are toy stores, carpet shops, shops selling creative works and creative sector types of equipment, outdoor activities store, cosmetics, dermatology, and perfume stores, and tobacco shops including those selling vapes.
