KUCHING: Lightning never strikes twice but this is not the case for the Sports Toto outlet in Menglembu, Perak which saw one Toto 4D Jackpot winner and a group of Power Toto 6/55 winners in one day.
Despite the odds of winning two jackpots at the same place on the same day, the lucky winners won over RM52 million on Saturday’s (May 25) draw.
A 79-year-old retiree from Perak who bet on the numbers 1484 and 1311 on the Toto 4D Jackpot had won RM27 million.
He said he was a regular punter and always has new ideas on what number to buy, and he got the serial numbers from two RM50 banknotes.
“Before my wife went on vacation, she gave me some pocket money and the serial numbers from the banknotes caught my attention.
“Therefore, I decided to bet on the two sets of serial numbers for two draws and I won the jackpot,” he told Sports Toto when collecting his winnings at the Sports Toto head office in Kuala Lumpur.
He added that he has not planned on what to do with the winnings of a whopping RM27,076,689.10 but he would certainly share it with his family members.
At the same time, RM25 million was shared among seven people comprising a mother, son as well as the son’s colleagues where they won the bet on the Power Toto 6/55 jackpot.
The 36-year-old son, who is an engineer, said they spent RM210 to buy Lucky Pick tickets for three consecutive draws and they won the jackpot in the last draw with the set of winning numbers ‘1, 5, 22, 29, 34 and 54’.
“We knew the jackpot for the lotto game was quite large thus we tried our luck with the Lucky Pick tickets.
“None of us were aware that we had won the jackpot on May 25. It was my mother who found out about the good news two days later after we heard from the townfolk that the outlet had two jackpot winners,” he said.
He added that it was surreal for all of them to win.
The jackpot prize for Power Toto 6/55 was RM25,299,397.25 and would be equally shared among them.
The son said he planned to start his own business with the new-found wealth and it would be a great retirement fund for his mother who had just retired.
