LIMBANG: The Limbang Collection, Processing, and Packaging Centre (CPPC) is now fully operational and expected to provide convenience to farmers in the area.
The Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said the CPPC project, which has been delayed for almost two years from its original schedule of November 2021, is crucial in processing agricultural products produced by farmers for marketing purposes.
During a visit to CPPC Limbang yesterday (April 6), Dr Abdul Rahman said that the project, built by the Public Works Department (PWD) with state government funding, will soon be handed over to the Department of Agriculture.
The Bukit Kota assemblyman added that he believed the handover will take place this month, after which the Department of Agriculture will seek a private operator to manage the fully equipped CPPC.
He said the private operator will identify the types of crops needed, such as corn, honey jackfruit, pineapples, and others, to be planted by farmers.
This, he added, will provide market assurance to farmers and help them increase their income under the guidance of the Department of Agriculture.
“With the establishment of the CPPC, the operator can buy local farmers’ produce, and farmers can grow on a larger scale, which can provide significant returns of at least RM6,000 per month,” he said.
Abdul Rahman expressed his gratitude to the implementing agency, the PWD, for realising the construction of this project and hoped that other CPPC constructions in Lawas and Betong would be implemented soon.
He also encouraged farmers in the Limbang district to take advantage of this opportunity by cultivating the required crops to improve their income, as targeted by the government.
Also present were Limbang PWD Development assistant engineer Awangku Fakhrulnizam Awang Madohi, Limbang assistant Agriculture officer Seliba Sering, state Agriculture Department Agricultural engineer Mohd Syazwan Lokman Hakim, State Farmers’ Organisation general manager Gom Raway, and Limbang Area Farmers’ Organisation general manager Michael Misau Beng.
