LIMBANG: The northern region of the Sarawak, especially Limbang, and Temburong district in Brunei will be a centre for ago-based products via a memorandum of understanding between Sarawak and Brunei.
Assistant Minister of Agriculture Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail believed it would bear fruit through the MoU which will be inked sometime in November.
He revealed this to reporters while attending a Moon Cake Festival celebration hosted by the Hokkien Association here on Saturday evening.
“We have been planning to increase cooperation in the field of agriculture between Sarawak and Brunei,” he said.
Also present at the event was Limbang MP Hasbi Habibollah, Limbang Resident Datu Maria Hasman, Deputy Land and Survey Director Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmud, Limbang Land and Survey Superintendent Awang Nazri Awang Safri, Temonggong Ang Kheng Su and Limbang Hokkien Association chairman Lim Thian Chin.
Abdul Rahman also informed that the proposed second Limbang bridge project would form part of the Pan Borneo Highway, adding that the project would inject live into the new township and Ranggau Valley.
The new bridge will have a second immigration post between Pendam (Limbang) and Lumapas (Brunei).
“This matter had already been discussed between our Chief Minister and the Sultan of Brunei. We were given the green light by the Sultan to go ahead with the project,” he explained.
Abdul Rahman believed that with the construction of the second bridge, the landscape of Limbang town would change and attract more tourist arrivals.
“We will be able to increase economic activities in this district,” he said.
