LINGGA: The rebranding of Lingga Festival to Lingga Regatta is important to ensure inclusion into the Sarawak tourism calendar.
Lingga assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor said the Lingga Festival (now Lingga Regatta) was one of the annual events to introduce the district to folk from other divisions and districts.
“This year, the Lingga Festival has been rebranded as Lingga Regatta, to include it in the Sarawak tourism calendar,” she said here on Monday (Dec 5).
She explained that this year’s Lingga Regatta was well received with the participation of 38 teams from all over Sarawak.
“It’s not only locals but teams from Saratok, Sebuyau, Tambak, Pusa and so on.
“I commend their involvement and, God willing, future events will always be improved, especially in terms of facilities.”
Noorazah noted that coverage of the regatta was wider this year. “For example, the boat race was broadcast live on social media platforms.”
In last Sunday’s competition, the Garuda Embun Berasap team from Kampung Tambak, Pusa was crowned as the 2022 King of the Lingga Regatta after topping the Bidar 30 event.
The team took home RM10,000 and the River King Cup.
