KUCHING: Felcra Berhad Batang Lupar Oil Palm Plantation in Kampung Lingga has been recording continuous losses since its establishment in 2008, causing dissatisfaction among its 122 participants and heirs, says Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor (GPS-Lingga).
Speaking during her debate on the Supply Bill (2025), Friday (Nov 15), she revealed that dividend payments to participants have only been made three times—in 2016, 2019, and 2022—despite operational records spanning nearly a decade.
She noted that 95 participants are now considering selling a 470-hectare plot of land to Felcra Berhad or private entities to settle the plantation’s operational debts.
“According to the agreement between Felcra Berhad and the participants in 2010, Clause 18 stipulates that after all necessary amounts under the agreement are paid, the land will be handed back to the participants, subject to mutual consent,” she said.
However, she noted that this clause prevents participants or their heirs from reclaiming the land unless the debts are fully settled.
Dayang Noorazah urged the Sarawak government to thoroughly investigate the issue and provide support, as the plantation serves as a generational source of livelihood for her constituents.
In the same debate, she also raised concerns about the Freshwater Fish Pond Project (PBAP) in Kampung Tanjung Jaya, Lingga, which has been operating since 1983 under the Sarawak Department of Inland Fisheries and the Department of Agriculture.
She proposed introducing new agricultural initiatives and requiring private companies involved in agriculture to secure approval from the Sarawak Department of Agriculture (DOA) to ensure proper regulation.
Additionally, Dayang Noorazah called on the Sarawak government to allocate funds for agricultural infrastructure development and Phase 2 of the Flood Mitigation Project in Maludam Sub-district as part of the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK-13).
