KUCHING: The Lions Club of Kuching Unity has extended a helping hand to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) student Irma Sharina, who faces significant health challenges, including Mallory-Weiss syndrome and esophageal varices.
Irma has been grappling with constant sickness and financial difficulties, urging the club to visit her residence at Kampung Siol Kandis here after a call for assistance from Uncle Kentang, a well-known philanthropist, who contributed RM500 towards the aid.
The club’s charter president, Manjeet Sidhu, supplemented this amount, allowing for the donation of a much-needed laptop and food aid to Irma.
“We are more than happy to help by donating a laptop and some food aid to Irma.
“As she currently studies at the Centre for Instructor and Advanced Skill Training (CIAST), she needs a laptop in order to do her assignments and online thesis.
“A good education is the foundation of a better future,” the club said in a statement.
Raised by a single mother alongside a sibling suffering from Stage 4 kidney systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), Irma’s family has faced numerous hardships.
Their mother, who once had a mild stroke, struggles to earn a living, relying on small-scale pastry making and catering.
As such, the Lions Club of Kuching Unity expressed hope that their contributions would ease some of the burdens faced by Irma and her family.
They wish Irma continued success in her academic endeavours, emphasising that perseverance is key to achieving one’s goals.
“There are no shortcuts to any place worth going. Push yourself, because no one else is going to do it for you.
“May you be successful and make a difference in your life as well as your family,” the statement read.
