SIBU: Cancer has been a thorn in the side for 24-year-old Loh Wei Wei and her family since she was a child.
She lost her mother when she was 11 years old due to liver cancer.
Fast forward six years later when she was 17 years old, her father was diagnosed with stomach cancer.
However, the nightmare did not stop there as she was diagnosed with nose cancer in August 2021.
Wei Wei shared this during an interview after receiving funds amounting to RM26,000—raised from a donation drive initiated by Lions Club of Dudong chairperson Kapitan Connie Loh — on Friday (April 22).
“Last August, I suddenly felt an excruciating headache and experienced facial swelling. So, I went to a clinic and the doctor recommended that I do a health check at a specialist centre,” she related.
She was diagnosed with nose cancer and “when I got the results, I was in denial. I couldn’t accept that I had nose cancer so I cried almost everyday.”
“I was advised to do chemotherapy at a private specialist hospital in Kuching. I was there for two months and I had to go there quite often. My next consultation is this August.”
Wei Wei, who can only consume liquid food, shared that she lost her sense of smell and her mouth also felt dry.
“I have sores in my mouth hence I have difficulty in my speech. Due to my poor health condition, I had to quit working in a computer shop.”
Wei Wei shared that her father had not been working since he was diagnosed with cancer.
Meanwhile, Kapitan Loh revealed that the funds were from several Lions Club members as well as herself.
“The money is for Wei Wei and her family’s household expenses as they do not have any income. Her medical expenses are covered by her medical insurance.”
Kapitan Loh also revealed that Wei Wei has an elder sister and a younger sister who is in Form 1.
“Last time when her father was diagnosed with stomach cancer, I also raised funds for him,” said Kapitan Loh.

Also present at the handover of the donation were Lions Club of Pelawan president Dixon Chiu and Lions Club of Queensway president Yiing Sy Huat.
