KUCHING: Some 85 stalls will participate in the Charity Food Fair organised by the Lions Nursing Home on Dec 3, from 8am to 12.30pm at its premises at Jalan Stutong, Off BDC, Stampin here.
Former Director of International Lions Club and Nursing Home Chairman, Datin Hajah Ellis Suriyati Omar said the event was the home’s annual activity to raise funds for its upkeep. “Every year we held this charity fair and we always received good response from the public.
The stalls or booths will be offering a variety of food, beverages, used clothing and so on,” she said, adding that they are targeting a minimum of RM120,000 this year. Suriyati said the collections will be used to cover part of the expenses of the nursing home, including staff payroll, utility bills, food and equipment. Obviously, she explained, the estimated cost of the home’s expenditure is RM1.8 million per year.
“We are organising various activities to cover these costs,” she said at a press conference held at its premises here yesterday. The public can purchase coupons worth RM100 per booklet for buying food or other items at the fair. They are obtainable at the home and also available at the fair.
Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian will officiate at the charity fair. The home’s patron Dato Hanifah Hajar Taib-Alsree is also expected to be present. For more information, contact Matron Ko Moi Hua on 082- 461493.
