MIRI: Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the community celebrates Chinese New Year (CNY) 2022 in moderation and in compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs).
“This year, although we are still practising the COVID-19 SOPs, we have entered Phase 4. As such, there have been a lot of relaxations, including being able to celebrate CNY in a livelier manner compared to last year,” said Assistant Minister of Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development Dr Ripin Lamat.
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the Lambir assemblyman said this at a CNY celebration programme organised by the Wong Lao Xian Deity Believers Association Miri at the Wong Lao Xian Miri Hall on Friday (Feb 4).
This festival, he added was also celebrated by other races and this showed unity in racial diversity in Sarawak.
He hoped that the people would continue to be vigilant in order to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the community.
Dr Ripin also contributed a Minor Rural Project (MRP) allocation amounting to RM150,000 for the purpose of upgrading the temple, especially to improve the temple entrance.
He will also allocate a fund of RM10,000 for the organisation of temple activities.
