KUCHING: Batu Kitang assemblyman Datuk Lo Khere Chiang has urged the Sarawak government to bolster federal enforcement efforts by deploying personnel through the Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPN).

He said this initiative will ensure adequate enforcement services to combat illegal activities as well as enhance the safety of the community.

Lo said this following a case on June 3 when Padawan district police received a phone call at about 8.50pm from the public about a fight between two men in a village on Jalan Haji Baki, which resulted in a fatality.

“I feel sad and helpless when I see the families crying at the loss of their beloved one,” he said, claiming the police have a lack of manpower to provide sufficient enforcement round the clock to curb unwarranted activities.

“How to provide satisfactory enforcement when there are only two vehicles patrolling the whole length of Padawan to Telaga Air,” he asked.

Following the call, police rushed to the scene and found a 55-year-old man injured in several parts of his body. He was confirmed dead by a medical officer.
