Local arrested for robbing student at knifepoint

BINTULU: Police arrested a local man for allegedly robbing a university student at knifepoint along Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi last Thursday (Sept 7).

Bintulu Police Chief Supt Batholomew Umpit confirmed that the 34-year-old suspect was apprehended at around 7.25pm on the same day.

“We received a police report from the victim who is undergoing practical training at an engineering company around 6.30am.

“The case is being investigated under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery, which carries a sentence of up to 14 years in prison, a fine, or whipping if convicted,” he said.

He urged the public not to make any speculations or spread false news regarding the case.
