A TOTAL of RM2.508 million has been disbursed for 209 infrastructure projects as of May this year, said Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.
He said the projects include road and drainage improvements, improvement of waterfronts, upgrading of markets, provision of street lighting, traffic lights, public toilets, public libraries, town and landscape beautification and also rural facilities and amenities.
“The Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government was this year allocated RM108.577 million under state funding for the implementation of various projects by 24 local authorities.
“All the projects are at various stages of implementation by the local authorities,” he said in his ministerial winding-up speech at the DUN sitting, today (May 23).
Dr Sim said under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) initiative, the local authorities under the ministry were allocated RM127.5 million in 2022 involving 846 projects and 439 projects were completed to date.
“The balance of 407 projects for 2022 are in various stages of implementation by the various local authorities.
“This month, the Sarawak government further approved a total of 728 projects to be implemented this year,” he added.
Touching on ‘projek rakyat’, he said the Sarawak government has also approved 320 projects under Projek Rakyat with a total allocation of RM1.89 billion for the ministry from 2018 to 2022.
“To date, 203 projects have been completed whereas 117 are at various stages of implementation,” said Dr Sim.
He added that another eight projects have been approved this year with a total value of RM254 million and will be implemented by Department of Drainage and Irrigation (DID), Public Works Department (PWD), Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and local authorities.
Meanwhile, a total of RM297.8 million has been approved under the Malaysia Road Record Information System (MARRIS) for the ministry to maintain council roads including road furniture, road shoulders, roadside drains and others in the 24 local authorities’ areas and RM95.1 million has been disbursed to the local authorities as of April 30 this year.
Dr Sim added that a total of RM20.7 million has been allocated this year to 26 local authorities in the state to implement 65 minor public amenities, public facilities and infrastructure projects by the federal Ministry which are under various stages of implementation.
