KUCHING: Local band Meruked released their latest single ‘Kining Posah’ with an accompanying music video, yesterday (Sunday).

The Bidayuh Bau term ‘Kining Posah’, which means crystal clear, captures the archetypal path of personal development and rejuvenation.

“The song explores themes of resilience and the transformative power of expression, echoing the band’s own evolution as artistes. This partnership underscores the potential of music as a vehicle for social discourse and introspection.” the group stated in a statement.

‘Kining Posah’ is a collaborative project between Meruked and human rights NGO, Article 19, along with Sarawak Women’s Association and HAUS Kuching. The project aims to address hate speech in Malaysia through cultural exploration.

“This is the best example of how we should use the platform to show what we can produce,” said the lead singer Syed Ashraf.

The Kuching six-piece band incorporates sape into their varied sound, taking influence from Sarawak’s rich musical tapestry.

Meruked, which performed at the Rainforest World Music Festival in 2023, has enthralled listeners with a blend of traditional and modern musical components all over the world.
