KUCHING: The involvement of the community as a conveyer of authentic information in channelling views and current issues to the government is encouraged.
Deputy Minister of Economy Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib said that the dissemination of information does not only involve community and tribal leaders.
“In fact, the youth and beliawanis also play an important role in this matter and it should be continued in our community groups.
“Any information and also explanation about certain issues from the government can also be well communicated to the community and vice versa.
“I am confident that if we play this role together, any false information and factual errors can be thrashed as best as possible,” she said this when officiating ar the Immediate Action Communication Programme (KOMTIS) organised by the Malaysian Information Department (JAPEN) Sarawak, at the SK Kampung Petanak, here, yesterday.
According to Hanifah, this programme benefits the community regarding the dissemination of accurate and authentic information on current issues from relevant government agencies.
“Through this approach as well, the government can disseminate information widely and transparently relating to the government’s current policies and initiatives. This also involves current issues that are of concern to the community at all grassroots levels to be used as guidelines.
“Thus, this programme is one of the effective platforms that facilitate the process of marketing information to community groups,” she added.
In that regard, she also hoped that this programme would be implemented and continued from time to time as a communication and engagement approach to help the villagers interact.
She also touched on the issue of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Council (MAPO), and sympathised with the plight of migrants in this country.
“The pressure to live among migrants causes them to engage in criminal activities such as theft and so on.
“As a solution, we need to work together to give information to the police if it is found in this area,” she added.
