MIRI: Deputy Minister for Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur (Entrepreneur Development) Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat highlighted the need for proactive engagement from local contractors within his Lambir constituency, urging them to step forward and take up projects rather than allowing outsiders to monopolise tenders.
He believes that by actively participating in the tendering process, local contractors can secure projects that align more closely with the needs and aspirations of his constituents.
“This approach not only promotes economic growth within the constituency but also fosters a sense of ownership and pride among constituents,” he said yesterday (Apr 2) at a breaking the fast programme hosted by the Lambir branch of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) at a leading hotel here.
Ripin’s call to action underscores the importance of empowering local contractors to play a significant role in the development and progress of Lambir.
“The trend of outside contractors monopolising tenders within the Lambir constituency is a cause for concern, thus, locals (contractors) need to step up their efforts to secure tenders for development projects within the constituency,” Ripin said.
He added that by actively participating in the tendering process and demonstrating their capabilities, local contractors can compete effectively with outside contractors.
“I am encouraging and supporting local contractors to step up and contribute to the overall growth and prosperity of the Lambir constituency,” he disclosed.
