BINTULU: Narcotics police arrested a local man for allegedly distributing and abusing drugs at the Pasar Lama area here yesterday (Mar 12).

Bintulu police chief Supt Nixon Joshua Ali said the 43-year-old was busted with a plastic packet containing 5.8g of suspected syabu on him.

Preliminary investigations showed that the seized drugs were intended to be distributed for around 20 users in Kemena, Jepak and Kuala Tatau.

“The suspect is being investigated under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison, along with up to three lashes of the rotan.

“He will also be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act after testing positive for drug abuse,” he said.

Nixon said the arrest was part of ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse and prevent criminal activities in Bintulu. Anyone with information related to substance abuse activities should contact the Bintulu police operations room at 086-318304.
