SIBU: A local man was discovered in a semi-conscious state near a burning car behind a petrol station at Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce last night (Jan 15).

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 4 chief Andy Alie said firemen from Sibu central station rushed to the scene, about 9 km away, after receiving an emergency call at 7.47 pm.

The team found a Honda City car engulfed in flames and the firefighters immediately went into action to extinguish the fire.

“Preliminary investigations showed that the fire was deliberately set, constituting an act of arson.

“The team also discovered a 29-year-old man, believed to be the driver, in a semi-conscious state near the burning vehicle,” he said.

Andy said the man was handed over to the paramedics to be taken to Sibu Hospital for further medical attention. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation
