Local gets six months’ jail for abusing drugs

KUCHING: The Magistrates’ Court here sentenced a man to six months in prison for abusing drugs in January this year.

Rahul, 25, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali to a charge framed under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 15 of the same Act.

If convicted, it carries a fine of up to RM5,000 or a maximum two-year imprisonment.

He was accused of abusing illegal drugs such as methamphetamine and amphetamine.

He did the deed at the Kuching Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) office around 1pm on Jan 29.

According to the facts of the case, the narcotics police arrested a man suspected to be involved in drug abuse activities. Initial urine test found that Rahul was tested positive for drugs.

The Sarawak General Hospital’s (SGH) Pathology Department further confirmed that the man’s urine sample was indeed positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.

Prosecuting officer ASP Arman Ibrahim requested that the court to impose a heavy sentence on Rahul as a lesson.
