KAPIT: Narcotics police arrested a local man for allegedly having syabu on him yesterday (Jan 2).
The suspect was arrested after he was spotted under suspicious circumstances by a crime prevention patrol team along Jalan Kubu.
Kapit police chief DSP Rohana Nanu said the suspect was detained for inspection around 12.45 pm and it led to the discovery of a green straw tube containing a crystalline substance believed to be syabu.
The suspect is being investigated under Section 12 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a fine up to RM100,000 or a maximum of five years in prison, upon conviction.
In addition, the suspect will also be investigated under Section 15 of the same Act, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or a maximum of two years in prison, upon conviction.
Rohana assured the public that the police remain committed to combating drug distribution and abuse.
