BELAGA: The new Belaga Waterfront worth RM4 million was declared open by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg today.
The waterfront which is expected to become a public attraction has changed the landscape of this town.
Many local residents here expressed their delight at the development which they hope would be able to attract more visitors.

In the past, the waterfront was unsatisfactory and the area was a bit dirty. But now, everything has changed and the place looks tidy and beautiful whereby the people can bring their family to relax here. The site around this waterfront can also be used as a trading site. If possible, I hope the waterfront can be enlarged and built even closer up to the river water just like the Kuching Waterfront.
Sting Lawai, 65
The waterfront is now better than before. Previously, there was only grass and the surrounding area is empty. The waterfront has been long awaited and now it has been completed as a recreational place. Maybe there will also be food stalls here in the future.
Tahzalazu Gagap, 19
I couldn’t believe that Belaga now has a beautiful waterfront. In the past, there was only a hut and vacant land and a shop selling oil. Now it has changed and looks neat, suitable for recreation and a place for young people to take pictures. I would love to see this place to have additional spin-offs like business stalls to generate income, the regatta or a place to rent bicycles for leisure activities.
Estha John, 27
This waterfront is a great addition to Belaga’s development. It can further increase the unity of the local people living here. Every evening we can hang out here while fostering social ties between communities. The landscape has also become more interesting. I hope the Belaga Waterfront will become a tourist attraction for visitors coming from outside Belaga.
