KUCHING: The Lodge International School Prefects journeyed to the Sumiran Eco Camp on the February 25 and 26 where they took part in a team building exercise and carried out community service at the ‘Home of Peace’.

The Home of Peace is a refuge for the elderly poor undertaken by the Catholic Welfare Services of Sarawak, and subsists on generous donations from the public and parishioners. The Lodge Prefects planned this visit to the Home of Peace as the first in a series of volunteer sessions with the Home, as they plan to donate on a regular basis.

They interacted with residents to find out more about their needs, donated daily necessities such as canned food, and staged a performance for the residents.

They also undertook the cleaning of the Home, dividing into teams to clean the drains and gardens in order to create a better environment. The team-building exercise which took place at the Sumiran Eco camp was student-led, with guidance from the teacher advisors, Ilbeth Lim and Alvin Chen. Students honed their leadership skills and facilitated bonding as the senior prefects devised group activities for the new, junior prefects.

“We were privileged to be able to visit the Home of Peace and to see the work being carried out by volunteer workers behind the scenes. We hope to contribute to this project by fundraising, and we’re excited to visit again,” said Jong Damin, Head Boy of Lodge International School.

“Lodge International School emphasises values of academic excellence and character, and the annual Prefect Training Camp aims to put these values into practice as students take the initiative to plan projects that connect with the community.

Our senior prefects did very well in planning this camp, and we are very proud of them,” said Teacher Advisor for the Prefectorial Board, Ilbeth Lim.
