KUCHING: Mohd Lokman Mustafa emerged overall champion in the Sarawak Bumiputera Amateur Golf Association (PGABS) Grand Finale 2017 golf tournament which was held at Damai Golf and Country (DGCC) on Sunday. The handicap three golfer won the prestigious PGABS’ President Trophy after he returned the day with a two-day gross score of 150 while Johari Aman finished second, five strokes adrift and Samsudin Mulok came in third with 156 strokes.
The title is the second for the 46- year-old golfer who recently won the 4th Sarawak Grand 2017 golf championship which was also held at DGCC last month.
“I did not expect to win because the competition is stiff with so many golfers competing for the top honours,” said Lokman who carded a gross score of 77 on the first day and improved his game on the second day with a one over 73. In the Kenyalang Trophy category which was based on nett score, Ajes Tuah came in first after he carded a two-day total nett score of 144 while Sukiman Aini was second with a score of 146 and Khalid Hamid came in third with 147 on countback (OCB).
The victory is the first for Ajes this year and he also did not expect it since it was Sukiman who led the rest of the pack on the first day with a three under par 69. But the second day of play was in favour of Ajes who managed to improved his score to 69 after a disastrous first day score of 75 while Sukiman carded 77 strokes. In the fray for the Kaok Trophy among the senior golfers, Sukarman Selamat emerged as the winner after he carded a two-day total score of 153 while Mazlan Mohamad Salleh ended second with just one stroke adrift and Zabidi Shahbaneh was third with 156.
Sukarman led the rest of the field from day one of the competition with 77 strokes on the first day and improved his score to 76 on the second day even though Mazlan staged a late comeback with 74 strokes in the final round.

Also present during the function was DGCC general manager, Roslan Mohd Salleh who disclosed that the club will be hosting the statelevel MAKSAK golf tournament on November 18 and the Arnold Palmer Golf Classic on November 19. According to him, over 100 golfers will be taking part in this year’s Arnold Palmer Golf Classic event which is being held as a tribute to the legendary golfer who was also the designer of DGCC’s golf course.
