MARUDI: Stacy Malang, a school teacher from Long Bemang, clinched the Ratu Baram Regatta 2023 title on Saturday night, making her the first person to win the title since 2017.
In the contest, Stacy stood out among ten participants. Not only did she win the top title, but she also bagged the Best Dress award and RM300.
For her win, Stacy received RM5,000, a crown, a sash, and a trophy. Juliana Simbai Sibat, the 2017 winner of the Ratu Baram Regatta, crowned her.
Viviana Uring Joseph, who shone with the Best Catwalk title, came in second place, taking home RM4,000. Diana Dayang William secured the third place and received RM3,000.
Both Viviana and Diana were also awarded a sash and a trophy.
Nine other participants were also recognised. They each received RM1,000. These include Scholastica Ubong Samuel, Frennie Chua Chia Sing, Adeline Teo Sue Ling, Evelyn Lai Yii Qin, Angeline Ruran Ryant, Abigail Abril Maing, Claudia Unyang, Jessica Awing Ureng, and Debbie Ubong Jok.
Adding a personal touch to the evening, Datin Monica Ukong (Marudi assemblyman Datuk Dr. Penguang Manggil’s wife), Datin Esther Balan (Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala’s wife) and Debbie Irang (Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau’s wife), were there to hand out the prizes.
This year’s Ratu Baram Regatta was part of the bigger Baram Regatta event. The regatta returned this year after not being held for six years.
