MIRI: Since its completion a year ago on April 18, the Long Lama bridge or the Pehin Sri Adenan Satem Bridge, has become a critical link for the Long Lama population and its surrounding areas.
“The bridge has given ample economic opportunities to the rural community,” said Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau.
He added that ever since the bridge’s completion, the movement of the people from Long Lama to Miri which is located at about 140km is uninterrupted, unlike before when they had to use ferry services.
“People now don’t need to rush or feel worried about the ferry service’s operation hours (7am to 9pm daily),” he said.
Gone were the days when people in Long Lama had to endure the long queue and the heavy congestion while waiting for the ferry, he added.
The bridge was fully funded by the Sarawak government at a cost of RM67 million and the project was approved during the late Adenan’s administration.
In recognition of Tok Nan’s contribution, the bridge was named after him during the official launching done by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
