MIRI: The Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad (SOP) donated cash, food rations and personal care items worth RM34,400 to survivors of a longhouse fire.

The July 12 fire destroyed the 86-door Uma Sambop longhouse at Long Semutut, Belaga, including a church, leaving the residents homeless.

SOP’s donation, under its disaster relief fund, helped ease the plight of the survivors.

SOP was represented by estate manager Tedong Lasit who visited and handed over the relief to the survivors at the affected longhouse which is located about 15 km from the firm’s estates.

“We always come forward and do our best to do whatever we can, especially during unfortunate times like this, by providing relief to the affected fire victims who live within or near to our operation area.

“This small gesture illustrates SOP’s ongoing commitment in giving back to the communities which is in line with our tagline ‘We Grow Together With Local Communities’,” he said.
