BETONG: The Ministry of Women, Child Development and Community Welfare (KPWKKK) through the Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKM) has channelLed RM70,900 worth of aid to victims of the August Jampi Longhouse fire disaster in Ban Ulu.
Deputy Minister of Community Welfare, Mohammad Razi Sitam said it was to assist the victims who had lost everything in the April 12 fire disaster.
“This time, the assistance includes RM3,000 in pocket money, RM3,000 in daily clothes, RM1,500 in dry food, RM4,900 in kitchen utensils, and RM900 in clothes and school equipment.
“The largest outlay is RM55,000 for building materials and rental.
“We also presented them with the Tabung Bantuan Segera (TBS) collection of RM2,100,” Razi said.
The Saribas assemblyman said this while visiting the victims at the Dewan Panglima Rentap Temporary Accommodation Centre (PPS) last Friday.
Also present were the Director of JKM Sarawak, Noriah Ahmad, Social Welfare Officer of Betong Division Uwieng Gimos, Resident Representative of Betong Division Amir Ridzuan Mohamad, District Officer of Betong, Sofhi Jebal, Supervising Officer of Debak Sub-District Nazari Bujang and Temenggung of Betong Division, Pi’ee Alwi.
“According to the District Officer of Betong Sofhi Jebal, they are eligible for Fire Compassionate Assistance to build new longhouses” Razi explained.
“The Sarawak government has set aside RM70,000 per door for new construction assistance, which will be overseen by the Disaster Management Committee of Betong Division.
“I hope that immediate action can be taken to ensure that the victims are able to construct new homes,” he said.
