SIBU: Longhouse folk of Rumah Bonythis Geramang near here can now use the newly repaired wooden bridge and small jetty.

According to Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) deputy chairman Wong Ching, he had immediately inspected and visited the longhouse on August 14 upon receiving a report from local residents that the wooden bridge and small jetty were in a bad condition.

“During the inspection, it rained heavily and Tuai Rumah Bonythis Geramang informed me that the wooden bridge and small jetty were dilapidated and needed to be repaired as soon as possible.

“Otherwise it will threaten the lives of the villagers,” he said in a statement today.

Yesterday, Wong accompanied by Penghulu Paing Tawi and SRDC staff reviewed the progress of the project.

“The old wooden bridge and the small jetty have been repaired and reused, which are convenient for villagers now,” he said.

Thus, Bonythis and the residents expressed their gratitude to Wong for his concern and effort in applying for funding from the relevant authorities to repair the old wooden bridge and small jetty.
