SARIKEI: Swift action by the residents of Rh Lingga Selangan here averted a potential disaster as they managed to prevent fire from causing serious damage to their longhouse on Saturday.
The incident came to light after the residents noticed smoke and sparks coming from the electrical wiring near two doors around 8.50 pm.
Without hesitation, the residents quickly grabbed two dry powder fire extinguishers to douse the flames before firemen from the Sarikei station arrived at the scene.
By the time the team arrived, the fire had already been extinguished, and they only inspected the scene to ensure there was no risk of reignition.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the team concluded the operation at 9.53 pm.
