KAPIT: Bukit Goran State Assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat recently announced a government grant of RM18,500 to the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) of Rumah Midin Anak Saong at Sungai Pelajau along Jalan Bukit Goram located about half an hour journey from Kapit town.

Jamit made the announcement while attending the Parental Skill Workshop for P215 Kapit Parliamentary constituency organised by the Community Development Office (KEMAS) that was held at the 37-door longhouse of Rumah Midin over the weekend.   

Meanwhile he also announced a grant of RM5,000 to Kelab Gagung Sarawak to carry out their activities for the year. In his speech Jamit called on rural communities to give full support to KEMAS  to ensure all activities planned are implemented smoothly for the benefit of the people.

“KEMAS under the preview of the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development Malaysia (KKLW) plays multiple roles in community development. Therefore, we must give full support to KEMAS,” said Jamit.

He commended the department for organising the workshop.

“KEMAS brings pre-school education to the door-step to ensure all children at their early age have the opportunity to attend early childhood education before enrolling at primary One. Children nowadays are very lucky because they are given the opportunity to attend pre-school which in the olden days were absence.

“In the pursuance to quality education, pre-school education is very important to build sound foundation. Kiddies at young age they learn 3M and acquire living skills like social interaction and how to look after themselves. It’s at pre-school that they adopt to the classroom learning atmosphere. I hope the stake holders including  parents, KEMAS teachers and the local community could work closely together for the sake of children education,” said Jamit.

He pointed out that parents played a very important role in children education. It is important that parents and the community give full support to the Tabika KEMAS. When you give the full support, the teachers would be able to concentrate to teach with utmost best to provide quality education to the children,” stressed Jamit.

He said today world has changed to Science and technological era. In order to be successful in future upon growing up, our youth need to be well educated he said.

Officiating at the closing ceremony of the workshop was the Deputy Minister Ministry of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi who is also the Member of Parliament for P215 Kapit.

Among those present at the function include a political secretary to the Chief Minister Tapah Ata, Kapit Resident Joseph Belayong, Kapit District Officer Elvis Didit, Assistant Director KEMAS Sarawak (Human Resource) Joseft Unsung on behalf of KEMAS Director Sarawak, KEMAS officer Kapit Leena Tero, Penghulu Pasang Tuba, Penghulu Madang Jelani, several heads of departments and community leaders.
