KANOWIT: Longhouse dwellers living along the Sungai Ngemah area here can expect to enjoy faster and better internet connectivity with five new telecommunication towers in the area.
Ngemah assemblyman Anyi Jana said with installation of these five towers complete, now it only requires equipping the towers with telecommunication equipment from the service provider.
He said he had previously met with officials from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM) in Kuching.
“I requested new towers for the Ngemah area, and they allocated nine towers. Out of the nine, five towers are allocated for the Sungai Ngemah area and four towers for the Nibong/Tada area.
“The construction of the five towers for the Ngemah River is complete, and it now depends on the telecommunication service provider to utilise the facilities,” he said during the groundbreaking ceremony for the new site of Rh Jimmy Jarau in Nanga Lakah, Ulu Sungai Ngemah recently.
According to Anyi, the project faced some land issues in the Nibong/Tada section, as a result of which the construction of one of the towers is still incomplete.
He advised longhouse chiefs to write letters to request for broadband services under the Jalinan Digital Negara Programme (Jendela).
He stated that he would assist longhouse residents in advancing these applications to the MCMC.
In another development, Anyi mentioned that SK Nanga Jagau is in the process of relocating.
“Authorities are currently identifying a new site for the school. This relocation is necessary because the current location is prone to flooding,” he said.
At the same event, Anyi announced an allocation of RM5,000 for the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of Rh Jimmy and RM4,000 for their Women’s Bureau.
