KUCHING: Husband and wife from Ipoh, West Malaysia have been a loyal fan of Kitaro for more than 20 years.

After over two decades of following and admiring Kitaro’s musical catalogues, Alex, 60 and his wife Sophie, 56 finally had the opportunity to witness Kitaro performing live in person for the first time.

It was also their first time in Kuching as they were told by Alex’s cousin that Kitaro would be one of the special highlight at this year’s Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF).

Alex shared with the New Sarawak Tribune that his favourite Kitaro song was Matsuri which he performed last night (June 28).

“I think we have two of his albums. One (of them) is the Best of Kitaro, and another one is the Silk Road,” he said.

The excited couple was noticeably attempting to use binoculars to have a closer look of the Grammy and Golden Globe award winner.

There was much adoration by the couple who also took videos and pictures of Kitaro’s performance.

Sophie said that she was delighted to be able to watch Kitaro performed live.

“Tonight he’s performing in the rainforest. So it’s very, very different. The stage itself, you can see the natural scenery behind, instead of just the stage so, that gives you a different kind of atmosphere and a special kind of feeling,” she added.

Similarly, Alex gave credit to the festival’s high quality sound system for setting up the music that touch on the emotion.

“I think the sound system is very nice. You can actually feel every dream beat. So, overall it’s quite a nice performance,” he pointed out.

Yesterday (June 28) was Alex and Sophie’s third day in Kuching, both of them have visited Tasik Biru in Bau, and the Buddhist Shrine in Bau Limestone Cave.
