‘Look after own health, nutrition for healthier heart’

LUNDU: The society needs to look after their own health and nutrition to reduce heart disease and other disease affecting them, said Lundu Heart Day 2022 organising chairwoman, Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu.

She said when there are symptoms of the disease, one’s especially the elderly should not delay to get immediate health check and treatment at nearby health facilities.

“The Sarawak Heart Foundation has helped a lot in improving medical facilities, especially for heart patients, for example by obtaining heart disease scanners and also sending local doctors abroad to gain expertise in cardiology,” she added.

She said this in her speech during the Lundu Heart Day 2022 programme in conjunction with the Sarawak Day 2022 celebration organised by N.03 Tanjung Datu Service Center in collaboration with the Sarawak Heart Foundation and local government and non-government agencies yesterday at Lundu here.

Among the activities that took place today was a heart health talk program which was attended and officiated by Jamilah.

Earlier, a talk session entitled “Love Your Heart” was delivered by Dr. Ho Yik Hon from the Sarawak Heart Center which aims to increase understanding and awareness about the disease.

About 200 invited attendees consisting of heads of agencies, community leaders and local organizations attended the program.

The Lundu Heart Day program lasted for two days from July 21 to July 22, 2022 and were enlivened with various activities such as talks and health briefings, “Walk A Mile” activities, health screenings, exhibitions, blood donation programs, telematch and more.

Also present at the ceremony were Lundu District Officer, Gustian Durani, Lundu District Council Secretary, Norashikin Brahim and Sarawak Heart Center Medical Officer Dr. Ho Yik Hon.
