KUCHING: Residents at Lorong Pasir here have expressed concerns about safety in their neighbourhood following the daily appearance of suspicious characters on motorcycles in the area, usually around 4.30pm to 5.30pm.

In the past months, there had been incidents of residents losing items such as gas cyclinders, laptops, watches and even cellphone chargers.

Residents have sought the help of the Sarawak Community Policing Association (SCPA), who last Sunday worked with the police to conduct a community and police dialogue at Dr Chan Tiang Ho’s residence.

Fifteen residents attended the dialogue that discussed about safety and security. One resident, Raymond Fong, showed a CCTV recording to the police.

It was decided that the police and SCPA will patrol the Lorong Pasir neighbourhood regularly, particularly during the hours when the suspicious figures usually turn up.

SCPA proposed that the residents form a community policing unit to work with the police to prevent crime.

Present also at the dialogue were SCPA chairman Datuk Lau Pang Heng and police representatives Sgt Maj Hassan and Sgt Ramli.
