SIBU: The driver of a container trailer lorry was lucky to survive in a head-on collision with a cement trailer lorry at Jalan Wawasan, here yesterday (May 5).
Sibu Zone Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Janggan Muling said firemen from the Sungai Merah station responded to the distress call on the accident, moving immediately at 3.25pm.
Upon arriving at the accident location five minutes late, the operation commander reported that two trailer lorries were involved in the crash.
“The lorries which came from opposite directions collided head-on at the spot.
“There were no casualties from the accident; however, the driver of the container trailer lorry has an open wound on his forehead and was said to be trapped inside the cabin.
“The cement trailer driver was unharmed in the accident,” said the Bomba chief in a statement yesterday.
Firemen used special rescue tool to make spaces for the driver to be extracted out of the cabin.
Janggan said the driver was then sent to Sibu Hospital by the Bomba EMRS unit to receive further treatment. The operation ended at 4.02pm.
