SARIKEI: A lorry driver was slapped with a traffic summons for overtaking dangerously along KM17, Jalan Sarikei-Betong, last week.
The incident was caught on another road user’s dashcam on Monday (Aug 14), and it showed a white lorry overtaking a car and a motorcycle dangerously.
According to the Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, they detected the viral posting on Facebook and conducted their investigation.
The footage attracted a wave of negative comments condemning the driver’s action, which can endanger other road users.
“Following, the Sarikei traffic police office managed to detect the driver.
“On Friday (Aug 18), around 11.30am, a traffic police officer visited the driver’s company to assist in the investigation,” the department said.
Investigations found that the driver admitted his recklessness in overtaking two vehicles dangerously.
As a result, a traffic summons was issued under Rule 6(2) of the Traffic Rules 166/59 for overtaking dangerously.
