Lorry driver gets 12 years in prison for robbery

KUCHING: The Sessions Court on today (April 6) sentenced a 30-year-old lorry driver to 12 years in prison and five strokes of the cane for robbery.

Amin pleaded guilty to two charges under Section 392 of the Penal Code to two judges in two separate proceedings.

In the first case, Judge Mohd Taufik Mohd@Mohd Yusoff sentenced the accused to five years in jail and ordered for him to be given two strokes of the cane for robbing a convenience shop in Sungai Maong Lama around 12.05am on March 21.

According to the facts of the case, he robbed an 18-year-old teen of three smartphones, a tablet and RM1,556 cash.

As for the second case, Judge Musli Abdul Hamid sentenced the accused to seven years in prison and three strokes of the cane for robbing a convenience shop in Jalan Lapangan Terbang around 7.15am on March 18.

During the robbery, he stole RM226 in cash and a smartphone which belonged to the shop’s worker.

The courts ordered both sentences to run concurrently from the day of the offender’s arrest.

DPP Iezzah Iburdanisha Ibrahim and Mohamad Danial Ali prosecuted the case, while the accused was not represented by counsel.
