KUCHING: A shop assistant who lost his car on Wednesday was dismayed to find it back, a total wreck, on Thursday afternoon.
The 34-year-old from Kampung Melayu Buso, who works in a cafe in Bau, parked his car in front of the shop he worked in.
He left the keys in the car and when he was about to go back at 10pm, he found the keys missing,
Borrowing a colleague’s motorcycle to go back to get his spare keys, the victim received a call from his friend that his car, valued at RM10,000, was stolen.
He then lodged a police report stating that his car’s loan was all paid and insured.
On Thursday afternoon at about 6pm, a man lodged a police report that he was passing by Bau Civic Centre when he saw a car being burned.
Police rushed to the scene and saw the suspect still there. Members of the public had beaten him up. Firemen were informed and they went to put out the fire but by then, it was totally destroyed.
Police arrested the suspect and found that it was the car that was reported stolen by the shop assistant.
The suspect is from Kampung Batu Kitang Jaya and is unemployed. He is being detained for further questioning.
