MIRI: Several low-lying areas in the interior of Baram are inundated following heavy rainfalls, since Sunday (Sept 11).

In Kampung Lio Mato, the floodwaters have reached up to three metres deep. Meanwhile, in Kampung Long Bemang, some 530 villagers must contend with the rising flood water which has risen to 3.5 feet at 9am today.

However, according to Miri Fire and Rescue acting chief Ahmad Nizam Sapaiee, despite the rising flood waters, there has been no evacuation of the affected villagers so far as the situation is still under control.

In Marudi town, heavy rainfalls have triggered the Baram river level to rise. Some areas in Marudi town are reported to be inundated in flood water. The affected areas are the waterfront; Marudi wharf; Kampung Dagang; Kampung Baru and Kampung Narum.

Meanwhile, several areas in Long Lama are also reportedly flooded.

Yesterday morning, a team of firemen from Marudi station was deployed to flood affected areas to monitor the situation.
