Low-lying areas in Bintulu struck by flash floods

BINTULU: Several low-lying areas around the district, were struck by flash floods following heavy downpour this morning.

Among the locations that had non-stop downpour were Jalan Tanjung Kidurong, Sungai Sebatang and Sungai Plan areas.

A spokesman from the Bintulu Civil Defence Force (APM) said a team was deployed to monitor the situation at the affected areas around 9.15am.

They found that the water level at Rumah Jarau squatter area was about three feet high whereas, water levels at Jalan Tanjung Kidurong and Sungai Sebatang areas were about one foot high.

Other than that, several roads were also flooded but it is still passable for vehicles.

As at 11am, the flood situation was under control and no flood temporary evacuation centre had been opened.
