SIBU: A father and his son were injured in a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder explosion at their home in Lorong Permai Timur 9 this afternoon.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that they dispatched firefighters from Sungai Merah station to the scene, about 13km away, after receiving an emergency call at 1.15pm.

Upon arrival, they discovered that the explosion had been caused by an LPG cylinder, which ignited a fire on the washing machine and caused the ceiling in the kitchen to collapse

The 39-year-old man and his 12-year-old son sustained burns in the incident, and both were rushed to the hospital by members of the public for immediate treatment. The extent of their injuries was not known.

It was reported that the washing machine fire had been put out by members of the public before the team arrived.

The team later took control of the scene to ensure no further risk of explosion.

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, and the operation concluded at 2.50pm.
