MIRI: Lieutenant Colonel Ahmad Nezam Che Ree is the new commanding officer (CO) of the 20th Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment (20 RAMD), replacing Lieutenant Colonel Azmi Ali.
Ahmad Nezam assumed command of the 20 RAMD in a ceremony held yesterday at Camp Sri Miri here.
Also present at the ceremony was the Ninth Infantry Brigade commander Brig Gen Shamsirudin Mohd Shariff.
Shamsirudin when met by the local media congratulated Ahmad Nezam and believed that he could continue the effort to further enhance the organisation (20 RAMD).
“We have always focused on the military disciplines and I believe that Ahmad Nezam could carry on with the efforts made by his predecessor,” he opined.
Shamsirudin added that the army have their own strategies to tackle military disciplines among its personnel.
“No doubt, like other organisations, we do have disciplinary issues, but we manage to tackle it through comprehensive approaches,” he reckoned.
He added that the army have come out with action plans as part of their efforts in tackling disciplinary issues especially those involved in drugs or criminal related offences.
Earlier, the outgoing 20RAMD commanding officer, Lt Col Azmi Ali urged recruits and soldiers to uphold discipline in the army.
“Don’t tarnish the image of the force, … upgrade your skills,” he pointed out.
A parade involving 12 officers and 216 ranked-and-file personnel under the 20 RAMD was held to mark the handing over ceremony.
Lt Col Ahmad Nezam was previously attached to the Ministry of Defence prior to his appointment as the new CO of the 20 RAMD.
Meanwhile, 20 RAMD former CO, Lt Col Azmi Ali will be posted to the Ministry of Defence.
