KUCHING: The 13th Kuching Open Doubles petanque tournament will take place from June 4 to 5 at the Sarawak Petanque Centre in Santubong here.

Kuching Division Petanque Association (PSPBK) chairman Datuk Zaidi Mahdi explained that the competition would see players from various states, including Sabah, Selangor, Terengganu and Federal Territory of Labuan.

“We expect the competition this time to be intense with the involvement of top players from several other states, including from Sarawak,” he said at the Lea Sports Centre sponsorship ceremony here yesterday.

Lea Sports Centre was represented by Lea Holding (M) Sdn Bhd managing director Raymond Sim Hee Pang. Also present was Sarawak Land and Survey Department director Datuk Abdullah Julaihi.

Zaidi said the number of entries would continue to increase given the closing date for registration is June 3.

“Usually there are teams that will register at the last minute, and that’s why I’m sure the existing number will continue to increase.”
