LAWAS: The Lun Bawang community has refused the usage of the term “pemakai menua” and “pulau galau” as they have “Tanah Bawang”, the Lun Bawang equivalent of the terminologies.
According to Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism, Datuk Henry Sum Agong during a Native Customary Rights (NCR) land committee meeting held at Hotel Seri Malaysia here yesterday, the Iban phrases used by several parties in legal cases demanding NCR rights are not relevant for the Lun Bawang community.
“Every ethnic community has their own unique terminologies in NCR land claims. This must be put under consideration by the Sarawak NCR Committee which is chaired by Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas. Detai ls per taining “Tanah Bawang” from the NCR meeting will later be brought to the attention of Uggah.
“We want the state government to address issues related to NCR land so that they will not be politicised by certain parties for the interest of one particular community or party. The NCR land committee meeting was attended by community leaders as well as lawyers from the Lun Bawang community.
