THE Develop and Establish National Park Tourist Support Centre In Lundu-Sematan project to boost the tourism sector in the two areas has been approved under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) state allocation.
Deputy Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting (GPS-Piasau) in disclosing this, said the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) had been selected as the project’s implementing agency.
“The estimated cost of the Develop and Establish National Park Tourist Support Centre In Lundu-Sematan project is RM3 million.
“The scope of the project is to build a tourist information centre complete with exhibition materials in the form of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) related to interesting destinations in the Lundu-Sematan area,” he explained in reply to Azizul Adenan (GPS-Tanjung Datu) at the DUN sitting yesterday.
Meanwhile, Ting said the SFC was also applying for the required allocation for the proposed Improvement of Eco-Tourism Facilities project in Tanjung Datu National Park.
“In addition, as an effort to increase the participation of rural people in community-based eco-tourism (CBET), the ministry, in collaboration with relevant agencies, has held a working visit programme in Lundu on March 2 to 4. Accordingly, a follow-up programme will be held on June 11 to 12 in Lundu.
“It is hoped that more homestay operators can be registered and more tourism products around Lundu-Sematan can be identified,” he added.
