CONSTRUCTION of the new Lundu water treatment plant and the Lundu-Sematan regional water supply project is expected to commence in the second quarter of next year and completed by the fourth quarter of 2027.

The project, funded by the state government, is currently in the tender document preparation stage.

Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said the tender for the Rural Water Supply Project (BALB) in Lundu, funded by the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, will be called by the end of this year.

“All tender invitations, tender evaluations, and contract awards are managed by the ministry,” he said.

Julaihi also mentioned that 80 villages comprising 3,410 households in the Telang Usan constituency will receive clean water supply through the implementation of the Sarawak Alternative Water Supply (SAWAS) programme, funded by the state government.

The project is currently in the consultant appointment stage.

“The construction of a high-level water tank in Simunjan is one of the scopes under the proposed Serian Regional Water Supply Phase III project.

Julaihi added that two longhouses, Rh. Meriak and Rh. Banyai, have been proposed under SAWAS Phase 3, funded by the state government.

“This project is currently in the consultant appointment stage, and its implementation will provide clean water benefits to 33 households in Tellian.

“In addition, five longhouses comprising 88 households have been approved under the Twelfth Malaysia Plan’s (12MP) 4th Rolling Plan for 2024 for the implementation of alternative water supply projects.

“Meanwhile, nine longhouses comprising 129 households have been submitted to the ministry under the Twelfth Malaysia Plan’s (12MP) 5th Rolling Plan for 2025 for consideration.
