KUCHING: Being a player in the tourism industry is currently not easy for Pantai Tenang owner Shariff Busrah.

He explained that he faced various challenges, especially during the pandemic.

“At the beginning of the movement control order (MCO) in March last year, operations at Pantai Tenang, Lundu were not badly affected as the situation was still under control.

“However, after the implementation of MCO 2.0, our income began to drop. I have 12 employees to pay,” he told New Sarawak Tribune recently. Each employee is paid RM1,200 a month.

“The situation got worse when the resort had to be closed due to the pandemic.

“Despite receiving assistance from the government and using the rotation system for employees, we still cannot afford all the costs.”

However, he was thankful to be able to resume operations following the announcement of the reopening of the economic sector in stages last year.

200 units of tents are available from as low as RM9.99.

Pantai Tenang offers 200 units of tents for rent for RM12.99 per night or RM9.99 for day trip.

“We encourage visitors to make early bookings (for those who plan to stay overnight) and for the use of other equipment.

“For the BoxHouse Camping Room or tent room bookings, it is charged at RM59.99 per night.”

Pantai Tenang is open daily from 10 am to midnight.

“Admission is free, including the use of the car park as well as other facilities such as toilets, bathrooms, electricity and some other amenities.

“Therefore, visitors should seize this opportunity to spend time with their family or loved ones either to de-stress or just to have fun.”

Shariff stressed that Pantai Tenang is strict with the Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP) compliance for the safety of all.

“We also do sanitisation work twice a week throughout the beach area here.

“Besides that, we also sell face masks, to prevent visitors from ignoring the SOPs.”

He hoped that the relevant authorities would look into improving infrastructure in the area to reduce problems such as clean tap water shortage.

He also hoped that the government would continue to allow coastal tourism activities to revive the local economy.
