KUCHING: The Society Atelier Sarawak will be hosting the Sarawak Eco-Fashion Gala at Dewan Sri Bunga Rampai on December 2 and 3.

This inaugural event will highlight Sarawak’s top fashion designers in collaboration with craft artists and communities on the catwalk.

Serving as a prelude to the larger Sarawak International Eco Fashion Week planned for 2024, the gala will display Sarawak’s eco-fashion potential, rooted in its rich rainforest, diverse indigenous cultures, and natural resources like fibers and dyes.

“Sarawak’s unique hand-woven, handmade textiles and accessories, stemming from its indigenous heritage, places it at the forefront of the eco-fashion movement,” the society said in a statement.

The event will feature partnerships between designers and artisan communities, including Edric Ong with Juliana Embrose, Melinda Omar with Ngot Bi, and designers like John Ang and Tanoti. International guest designers from the Philippines, Kazakhstan, Thailand, and Indonesia will also be showcasing their work.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng, representing for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, will officiate at the gala.
